a weekend busier than i thought it would be
5:27 PM
going into the weekend, i thought it'd be nice to have a bit of a rest before the one i have coming up. as it turned out, i ended up with a full card. weird how that happens sometimes.

friday i sort of hung out at my apartment until Emily got off work. we hit up shanghai mama's, which was awesome as usual. then off across the river, to catch the bourne ultimatum. short review: i like it. many people are bitching online about the shaky cameras and fast edits, but i think they worked.

after bourne we watched an episode of iron chef, the original japanese version, not the (reputedly) piss-poor american version. she'd never seen it, and i hadn't seen it in a very long time. i have about four tapes full of it, so i threw one in and got a rather disappointing episode. it was a sweetfish battle, featuring michiba. not a great one as a first episode.

saturday was allergy day, apparently. my allergies were the worst they'd been in a very long time. i spent much of the afternoon at baba's editing photos. i got through the murder junkies set i took a few weeks ago, and a few older ones.

i tried going out saturday night, but the combo of benadryl & vodka & all my friends leaving and not comong back soon like they said they would made me leave a little early. i was back home by 1:30, playing a little RE4 before bed.

last night emily and i had some dinner at j. alexander, followed by watching a couple videos. first off, since she speaks french (and since i ran across it in the closet) i gave her a copy of tape 1 of the french edition of Muzzy that'd found at the thrift store years back. it's pretty entertaining, actually, and being a language nerd, i might track down some more.

she also brought over a favorite of hers, thoroughly modern millie, a 1967 musical with julie andrews, mary tyler moore, and carol channing. it's something i wouldn't have glanced at twice were it not suggested by someone, but i ended up enjoying it overall. it was directed by george roy hill, whose work i've seen before with slaughterhouse-five. i really liked his color scheme use; often times there'd be an entire room of black & white outfits with splashes of one color (red, green, yellow, or blue, depending on the scenes).

the very politically incorrect chinamen (is that the preferred nomenclature?) were comically badly stereotyped, and one of them was played by pat morita. and i still am not a fan of carol channing (whose character's name, coincidentally, was Muzzy).
