my favorite comic book artist cum rick star, James Kochalka (a.k.a. James Kochalka Superstar), offers little 2" by 2" paintings for sale. i thought they'd make a great gift, so i bought a few of them. combined with the swell frames i found, these turned out to be even better than i'd imagined. email him if you'd like one (or one of him many excellent cds).
as you can tell by my last.fm charts, i have been completely enamored with the Ricky Gervais Show, his radio show from london's XFM radio station (not the satellite radio XM, by the way).
thanks to one of my blogger friends (jima? man, i can't remember...) blogging about it, i checked out the podcast and loved it. (wait, the new one's there! awesome.)
i went to thepiratebay.org and found each series in a torrent, and i've been slowly wending my way through them. i've actually just noticed a master torrent here, which may save you a lot of work, if you're interested.
ANYWAY, the reason i'm writing all this is that i've just been laughing out loud at a particular segment from one of the shows, and i am including it here:
it's not as good (i think) as "lazy sunday", but it's great. i'm digging timberlake's new record anyway, so it's nice to see him take the piss out of r&b.
Manimal is Cinci local faves and US DMC group champ dj's The Animal Crackers, along with whomever they get to be along. In this case, amongst all the local rappers, MC Paul Barman makes an appearance.
Oh, and the way i'm doing these links is a bit convoluted, so let me know if it's working. i.e., leave a comment if you can download the track...
Those who know me know I have a bit of a penchant for Serbian hip-hop. Or rather, a penchant for "Balkan" hip-hop, as I have little knowledge of whether a given artist is from the Beograd (Serbia) scene, from the Sarajevo (Bosnia & Herzegovina) scene, from the Zagreb (Croatia) scene, or from the Podgorica (Montenegro) scene. They all share similar languages (Serbian/Croatian), having formerly been the same country, so unless i look them up, I don't really know.
So, yeah... 43zla is a Serbian group, and this is one of my favorite tracks from their album "Sve Same Barabe". One of the members is Ajs Nigrutin, whom I also like, and this track has a guest appearance from Skabo, another of my favorite rappers from the area. "Medeni Mesec" has samples from American porn, which are (to my ears) quite bizarre in the middle of the non-English speaking track. Weird.
