when i was a kid playing nintendo, a friend showed me how to get to world -1 in super mario brothers. it's not overly easy, but i could do it.
however, everyone i've tried to show it to since then has been disappointed that i can't really do it any more. as such, i think they maybe don't believe me.
so, either (a) i don't listen to my friends, or (b) my friends don't tell me things, but either way, it somehow slipped my attention that Peeping Tom is playing tomorrow night in indianapolis.
luckily, my friend laura asked me whether i'm going. i said yes.
i woke up late today, which was good, since i'd had a headache for like 12 hours yesterday when i finally crashed. i think i just needed sleep. maybe i'm getting too old for only 4 to 5 hours a night on weeknights....
the new (to me) air conditioner froze over last night. i didn't notice when kate left for work this morning, but when i got up the room was not warm, exactly, but not as cold as it had been the night before. i guess i need to start turning it off during the day....
i've been listening to possessed by the balanescu quartet in the shower for the last couple days. i forgot how much i like it. rather, i forgot how much i like the kraftwerk covers and the one track ("want me") with miranda sex garden on vocals. the balanescu-written stuff is ok, but not my thing.
hopefully i can clean the apartment today. i'm about to head out and get some coffee and food, probably chipotle, since it's near Baba's, the coffee shop i frequent.
i'm not a Beatles fan, but you have to respect someone with that kind of mastery over their instrument.
Jason Forrest "War Photographer"
this is the incredible animated video to a track from one of my favorite records of 2005. i think i was hipped to this by stAllio! soon after it appeared on the web.
scary "Titanic" and heartwarming "The Shining" trailers
these were a couple of the fake trailers that were going around last summer. apparently the point was to make a trailer that made the film seem quite different from how it really is. to this day, i think of this Shining trailer whenever i hear "solisbury hill".
aside from just being a great repository of video stuff you haven't seen in years and in many cases would just never see, youtube is also good for cleaning your hard drive. you see, i have a ton of video crap on my hard drive that is interesting enough for me to keep, but i kind of want the hard drive real estate back. i don't even know where i got some of this stuff...
well, thanks to youtube, i can delete some of this stuff. here are a few things i was able to delete today:
Ghosts of Mars Recording Session
this is, as the title suggests, a recording session for the soundtrack to John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars, which featured Anthrax, Steve Vai, and my hero Buckethead. Sweet.
Pecan Pie
Michel Gondry's short film made during the off hours of filming Eternal Sunshine.
What Is It? trailer
The trailer for the very weird Crispin Glover film. do i really need to say anything about it? i don't think so.
MIA's "Galang" video
yes, everyone's seen this, including me a zillion times. i have big hearts for MIA.
Tourette's Guy "Bob Saget"
yes, "bob saget" can be a curse. i catually found this last year *looking* for saget stuff. now you can find all of the videos of tourette's guy on youtube.
blaerg "incessant subversive decibels"
i think i soulseek'd this off of blaerg's hard drive. now you can see it.
Borat on Conan
part 1:
part 2:
this interview was my first exposure to sasha baron cohen, and it stuck in my mind for a long time. this dude kills me.
"Peluca"
This is the short film that eventually became Napoleon Dynamite. It's on the dvd, but at the time i found this online, i'd only seen Dynamit in the theater.

ok, that's all for now. i think i freed up a few hundred megs of space. killer.
